When you start a small Maine business, uncertainty in many areas means that you have to proceed with caution. Considering where we began, with charts for just 20 lakes and all of them displaying depth information collected in the mid-1900's, we are very happy to announce we have come a long way in the last 6 years. So much has transpired since we opened in 2001 it has been difficult at times to keep up.
For starters, most of the original charts have been updated with fresh, MLC collected data. They now display digitally accurate spot soundings and detailed lake contour lines. The lake contour lines we've added enable the lake users to visualize the topography of the lake bottom. We have, in many cases, provided the first accurate look beneath water of many of Maine's lakes.
We have added a number of new lakes to our list of available lake charts. Most notable are the charts we have created for Moosehead Lake and Sebago Lake. These charts have propelled us onto the national scene. If you type "Maine lake maps" into any of the major search engines, MLC pops up either at or very near the top. Believe it or not, we have shipped charts to every state in the country, including Hawaii and Alaska!
Since the beginning it was our intention to create detailed, yet affordable lake charts of the lakes and ponds in Maine. This has not changed. While some may argue about the "affordable" part, we feel the prices we ask for are reasonable considering the time, effort, and expense associated creating a detailed lake map from scratch. We have not raised any of our prices since we began, even with cost of fuel and shipping continually on the rise.
We continue to work with Lake Associations, Fish and Game Clubs, Marina owners and others to develop and distribute lake charts. This cooperation is important to us in that there isn't any better way to learn about our lakes than by the people who have grown up on them.
Ask any veteran angler or recreational boater and they'll tell you how important a good map is when trying to locate fish or plan a safe outing. Pre-planning is the key and it all begins with a chart from us. Utilizing one of our charts, fishermen can reduce valuable time searching for fish by eliminating unproductive areas in advance. Whether you fish or boat on just one or two lakes or travel all over Maine to enjoy our natural resources, Maine Lake Charts, Inc. can help you do it effectively and safely. As with any navigational aid, watercraft operators should use caution when operating in unfamiliar waters. Our charts, although helpful, are not intended to be used solely for navigation. |
