Here we go.... Ice-Out is slowly spreading across Maine. Although it can't seem to happen fast enough, our lakes are beginning to melt away. We are once again asking our website visitors to contact us so we can maintain our "Ice-Out" webpage on a daily basis. This webpage has become THE place to get the latest ice-out information. And it only works because of you!
So.... what exactly is ice out? This topic has often been debated. For the purposes of this web page, we will consider "ice out" to be when you can navigate unimpeded from one end of the water body to the other. There may still be ice in coves or along the shoreline but when a person can traverse the entire water body without being stopped by ice flows, we will consider the ice to be out.
Please remember to be careful out there. Cold water KILLS. An unplanned dunk in a lake with water temperatures running around 40 degrees can quickly numb your body and make climbing out impossible. Where that PFD!
Help us continue this effort by purchasing one of our lake charts. We have updated the Megunticook Lake chart so be sure to check our "Chart Status" page before you leave. Out newest chart, Pushaw Lake is now available. It features all new depth information and 3' lake bottom contours.
